Write a good prompt
A prompt can be one line or a 50-page brief. Reela reads every line and puts each requirement where it belongs: the script, the look, the opening, the music, the things that must never appear. How closely your own script is kept is up to you.
Simple: just say it
Tell Reela what the video is about, who it's for and how it should feel, in a sentence or two:
A warm video for my coffee shop's opening this Saturday. For locals; the first cup is free. That's enough. Reela writes the script and picks the shots, voices and music. If you want to add more, these help most:
- The main message. Start with the one thing viewers should take away.
- The audience. Say who will watch it. A video for new customers and one for experts need different words.
- The tone. Funny, calm, urgent, premium — name it.
- Voices, if they matter. Describe the narrator or the characters' voices, for example "a warm, older female narrator".
- Key facts. Product names, dates, numbers or claims that must appear exactly.
- Where it will be posted. Say "for TikTok" or "must pass review on TikTok", and Reela keeps the video within that platform's rules.
Advanced: write a brief
When you have specific requirements, write them one per line, each starting with what it's about. Reela files every line where it belongs, so nothing gets mixed up:
Opening: latte art being poured
Must say: "First cup is on us, Saturday only."
Music: soft acoustic guitar
Never show: paper cupsGive separate directions
You can direct each part of the video on its own line, and Reela applies each one where it belongs:
- The opening and the ending — "Open on the finished dish", "End on our logo with the line 'See you Saturday'".
- The pace — "Fast cuts", "Slow and calm".
- The music — "Upbeat acoustic", or "No music".
- The sound — "No narration", "Keep the voice going with no silent gaps", "No sound effects".
- What must never appear — a competitor's product, a certain color, people's faces.
- On-screen text — what it says and when.
If two directions might clash, say which one wins, for example "If anything conflicts, follow the opening direction". If you already have a finished opening, give it to Reela and it's used as is.
Use your own script
Paste your script into the prompt and say how closely Reela should follow it:
- "Use this script word for word" — every word stays exactly as you wrote it.
- "Follow this script, just tidy it up" — your script stays, with small edits so it reads smoothly.
- "Keep about 60% of this script" — Reela keeps that much and rewrites the rest.
- No instruction — Reela keeps every sentence and your key lines, and may trim a few words to tighten it.
Paste a screenplay as it is: scene headings, action and dialogue each stay in their place. To make sure one exact sentence is said, write it in quotes, for example: End with "Book your table today."
Pick a length that fits your script. If the script is longer than the length you chose, Reela shortens it to fit. To make a long story with every word kept, use a series, where episode length follows your script.
Give background, not a script
Paste product facts, an article or notes and say they're background. Reela writes the video from them instead of reading them out.
To get a certain writing style, paste a sample and say "match this style". Reela copies its voice and rhythm, not its content.
Language
Write your prompt in any language. To choose the language of the video, say it, for example "make the video in Spanish". If you don't, Reela uses the language you wrote in. When every spoken line comes from your own footage, the video keeps the language spoken in that footage.
The video's language is separate from the language you use Reela in. See Sign in and your account.
Tips
- Match content to length. Ten points don't fit in 30 seconds. For a short video, pick the few points that matter most; for a long one, give Reela room to build.
- Describe the result, not every shot. Say what viewers should see and feel. Reela plans the shots, the cuts and the camera.
- Avoid contradictions. "Calm and relaxing, but fast and high-energy" forces Reela to guess. Pick one.
