Edit a video
You can change a finished video two ways: tell Reela what to change, or open the editor and change it yourself. Most changes are quickest in words.
Ask for changes in words
In the conversation where the video was made, say what you want changed, in plain words. For example: "Make the opening faster", "Use a warmer voice" or "Shorten it to 30 seconds."
- Each change is made as a new version and uses credits. In Chat mode Reela shows the cost first; in Auto mode it starts right away. Each version appears as its own card in the conversation, marked V1, V2 and so on. Click one to show it in the panel on the right.
- Your message changes the video shown in the panel on the right; its name appears as an @ tag above the message box. To change a different video, click @ on that video. To make a new video instead, remove the tag with ×.
- If you say you want to edit, Reela opens the video in a quick editor tab on the right. Pick a shot on the timeline and tell Reela what to change about it, or click Open in Editor for the full editor.
Open the editor
Open the full editor from any of these:
- Editor under the video in the panel on the right.
- Editor next to the video's name in Library.
- Editor in the video dialog.
The editor opens in a new window. Your changes save as you go; the top bar shows Saved. Use Undo and Redo next to History if you change your mind.
The left side has these panels: Storyboard, Media, Subjects, Subtitles, Music, Brand kit and Agent. The timeline runs along the bottom. Select anything on the timeline to see its settings on the right.
Storyboard
Storyboard lists every shot in order, with what happens in it and the lines spoken. Click Download at the top to save the storyboard as a PDF.
To change a shot's length, drag its ends on the timeline.
Regenerate a shot
- Select the shot in Storyboard or on the timeline.
- On the right, check its references and its description. Edit the description if you want something different.
- Click Regenerate. If you changed the description, the button reads Regenerate with changes.
- The new take appears under Versions as V2, V3 and so on. Click a version to use it.
Regenerating uses credits: a few for a picture, more for a video shot, depending on its length and quality level. See How credits work.
You can also use your own footage: click Upload instead. For an uploaded shot, Generate instead goes back to a generated one.
Between two shots, select the transition to choose Cut or Fade, and set the fade length.
Subtitles
- Open Subtitles in the left panel. Select a subtitle to edit its text, or remove it with Delete line.
- Click Subtitle style at the top of the list to set the Font, Size, Position and Style for every subtitle at once. Default puts size or position back.
- In Subtitle style, click Download SRT to save the subtitles as an .srt file.
Music and volume
- Select the music to see its description and versions. Edit the description and click Regenerate for a new track, or Upload instead to use your own.
- Drag Level to set how loud the music sits under the voices and sound.
- For a shot you uploaded, Sound sets the level of its own audio.
- Fade sets how long the music, a shot's sound or a sound effect takes to fade in and out.
Brand kit
The Brand kit panel lists your brand kits. Click one to put it on this video; it shows on the preview the way it will export. See Apply your brand.
Ask the editor's agent
Open Agent in the left panel and type what should change. It works on whatever you've selected, or on the whole video.
Export
Click Export at the top right and choose:
- Video — the finished video file.
- All Assets — a .zip file of the video's files.
- Project (FCPXML) — a project file you can open in other video editors.
