# Avatars (/docs/help/avatars)

## What an avatar is

- Each avatar has a photo that sets how it looks.
- Each avatar has its own voice. When the avatar speaks, Reela always uses that voice.
- The avatar looks the same in every video, so viewers recognize it.

## Find avatars

Open **Avatars** in the left rail.

- **My avatars** — avatars you've made.
- **Public** — ready-made avatars anyone can use.

## Create your own avatar

To make an avatar from your own photo and voice, see [Create your own avatar](/docs/help/create-avatar).

## Use an avatar in a video

- Start with the **Talking Avatar** skill, which builds the video around an avatar presenting your message.
- Or in **Create**, add it from the avatar option in the add menu.

Write what the avatar should say, or let Reela write the script from your message. To use your own words, see the script tip in [Write a good prompt](/docs/help/prompts).

## Tips

- Keep the avatar's lines short and spoken, the way a real presenter talks.
- Say the tone of delivery you want: friendly, serious, excited.
- Lip sync works at every [video quality](/docs/help/video-quality) level.
